The Seine river bank alluvial beach and the La Galiotte pond reedy marsh

3The earthworks, planting of aquatic species and decking are complete. Seedlings and shrubs will be planted from November onwards. More paths will be completed in early 2016 after the plants are in place.

The western section of the La Galiotte pond – “the bottom end of the pond” – was filled up with earthworks on the bank, in order to create shallow water areas featuring channels and dips.

The entire area was planted with helophytes in order to create a large reedy marsh. This area is of value to fauna insofar as it provides a place for nesting, migratory and winter birds to reproduce, feed and rest.

It is a bold operation to restore the pond’s ecosystems.
