Coeur vert Phase 1 progress update

Work on clearing Phase 1 of the Cœur vert project, which began in August 2013 under a public works contract, is in the finalisation stage. Clearing was carried out selectively in order to maintain the existing ecological continuity formed by the copses and former orchards.

Now the farmers have taken over and are preparing the soil by repeatedly working it over and spreading compost. Come spring, they will sew wildflower meadow, field mustard, switchgrass and maize in preparation for the miscanthus, scheduled for 2015.

A third public works contract currently in the pipeline will involve installing an agricultural irrigation network using the well drilled last April, planting field hedges continuing on from those in place, and rehabilitating the paths.
